Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions NRI families ask us most about MBBS admission under the NRI Quota.

Which Indian state offers the highest number of NRI seats in Government Medical Colleges?

Rajasthan tops the list with more than 447 seats, followed by Gujarat with over 420 seats. For the 2026 session, new admission possibilities have also emerged in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Is it possible to apply to more than one state at the same time?

Yes, applying for both the All India Quota (MCC) and several State Quota (DME) counselings simultaneously is allowed. That said, coordinating multiple timelines, security deposits (sometimes as high as Rs. 5 Lakhs), and varying document requirements calls for careful, expert planning.

In what ways does hiring a professional counselor make a difference?

The NRI admission journey comes with numerous legal complexities — from preparing an accurate Sponsorship Affidavit to shortlisting colleges known for strong clinical training. Our support helps ensure no seat is lost due to paperwork mistakes or missed deadlines, improving your overall admission possibility based on your NEET score.

If my child resides in India, can they still qualify for an NRI seat?

Yes. Through the "NRI Sponsored" category, students living within the country can be considered for NRI seats provided a qualifying "near relative" based abroad commits to covering their full tuition. This route is mainly available at Deemed Universities and in select states, including Rajasthan, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.

Who qualifies, legally, to act as a candidate's "Sponsor"?

Based on the Supreme Court's ruling in the Consortium of Deemed Universities case, only a near blood relative can serve as a sponsor. This generally covers: - The candidate's real brother or sister. - The father's real brother or sister (Paternal Uncle/Aunt). - The mother's real brother or sister (Maternal Uncle/Aunt). - Grandparents, from either side. - First-degree cousins (permitted in states such as Rajasthan). Note: Extended relatives, family friends, or well-wishers do not meet the legal eligibility criteria for sponsorship.

What does the "NRI Conversion" process involve?

Indian students typically register under the "General" category on the NEET form. To become eligible for an NRI seat, you need to apply through the MCC's NRI Conversion Window, which usually stays open for 2-3 days during Round 1 and Round 2 of counseling. This requires emailing MCC the complete set of sponsor documents to switch your category from "Indian" to "NRI."

Is the NRI Quota still valid, considering the Supreme Court referred to it as "fraudulent"?

In September 2024, the Supreme Court upheld a ruling scrapping the NRI quota specifically within Punjab's government colleges, describing it as a "fraud" in that particular context. That said, the NRI quota remains in effect for 2026 at Deemed Universities and across many other states, including Rajasthan and Gujarat. Always confirm the latest prospectus for your chosen state before proceeding.

What documents make up the "Mandatory 5" that my sponsoring relative needs to submit?

To complete your child's category conversion, the sponsor needs to furnish: 1. Passport & Visa: Legible copies of the sponsor's current passport along with their work permit or resident visa. 2. NRI Status Certificate: Issued by the Indian Embassy located in the sponsor's country. 3. Sponsorship Affidavit: A notarized commitment to cover the complete 4.5-year fee. 4. Relationship Tree: A formal affidavit or document establishing the blood relationship (such as birth certificates connecting sponsor and candidate). 5. Bank Statement: The sponsor's most recent 6 months of statements from their overseas bank account.
